One less debt = One happy girl

I am a happy girl today.  I have officially paid off my student loans!  My final payment isn’t actually due until June, but I decided to look up my payoff amount today and saw that it was small enough to get it out of the way early.  Yippee!!!  This will be a huge boost to our financial situation, not having that monthly bill any more.  It feels like a weight has been lifted.  It’s kind of a bummer that I’m not putting my education to good use at the moment, but I’ll get back to my career when the time is right.  Right now, I need to focus on my kids, and continue to find new ways to save our family money so I can afford to be home with them until they are all in school!

  1. If you are looking for ways to save I highly recommend The Complete Tightwad Gazette by Amy Dacyczyn. It is a bit outdated in spots (pre-internet!) but when you read it you just get the feel that lots of little things add up to BIG savings. It is one of my favorites.

Before you go back to work I also suggest you read The Two-Income Trap by Elizabeth Warren. It is excellent. Not a “how-to” book really…more of a “why” book.

Both are available at the library.
